The designers' collective at Built Inc. takes funky inspiration from the modernist gems scattered among the hills. A New York transplant, "candid" founder John Sofio helms a boutique design/build shop—as well as an art and design gallery retail space. In both his custom renovations and new ground-up construction projects, Sofio is said to create unique, environmentally cool bits of contemporary craftsmanship from historical bones. Whether playing upon the indoor/outdoor vibe, exploring color, or trying out different materials, Sofio is said to enjoy the experimental. The less adventurous should look elsewhere.
