~ GRUBSTAKE DAYS 2008 ~

Pony Express Ride & Mail:
Start off Grubstake Days (May 2008) with the Pony Express…
The Morongo Basin Horsemen’s Association will be hosting the Annual Pony Express Ride on Saturday May 10th, 2008. The Pony Express Riders will begin their ride in Palm Springs and ride to Pioneertown - tracing the foot-steps of the famous Pony Express Riders from days of old. Once inside the Pioneertown borders, one just never knows what sort of bandits may try to ‘hold-up’ the mail...but the mail WILL get thru, and with the help of the Marshall (and the Town), Post Master Kathy will be there to accept the mail bag. Definitely a fun-see for the whole family!!

Congratulation to our Grand Marshall:
The Grand Marshall for the 58th Annual Grubstakes Parade will be Ms. Jessie Jarman. Ms. Jarman’s grandfather was one of Yucca Valley’s first homesteaders between the late 1800’s and 1913. Jessie (and her family) moved to Yucca Valley in 1923 – when she was 9. Ms. Jarman turned a beautiful age of 94 on March 16th and is still quite spry and chipper! Ms. Jarman has been kind enough to share with the Morongo Basin Historical Society many tid-bits of historical information about our fair community and the colorful people that created this area. Jessie also recalls the excitement and the community spirit of the very 1st Grubstake Days Parade of Yucca Valley, as she, family members and friends, were amongst the parade on-lookers. “Back then, it was quit some thing.”
The Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor Ms. Jessie Jarman as its Grand Marshall for the 58th Annual Grubstake Days Parade in May 2008!!
