Things To See and Do

Old Town Arts, Antiques, and Collectibles

The Town Council has far-reaching plans to build on the appeal of Yucca Valley’s Old Town as a destination that preserves the history and values of Yucca Valley. Property and business owners have joined with other community members to encourage revitalization along Highway Route 62.

Charming shops dot both sides of the highway, inviting shoppers and history buffs to meander through the arts and antiques of collectors and artists at work. Further east, where Route 62 meets Highway 247, take a stroll through the Sky Village Outdoor Marketplace.

Desert Christ Park

A unique and awe-inspiring sight greets visitors to Yucca Valley’s Desert Christ Park. In 1951 Antone Martin started creating larger-than-life-size white concrete statues depicting biblical characters and scenes. Martin’s works of reinforced steel concrete is a tribute to world brotherhood and peace.  Ranging in size from 3 to 16 tons, the magnificent figures are arranged on a hill to depict scenes in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  Antone Martin continued to work on his sculptures until his death in 1961.  Desert Christ Park is maintained by the non-profit Desert Christ Park Foundation. It is open to all, free of charge, every day of the year.

Warren’s Well

Crestview Drive & SR247

In 1881, Chuck Warren decided to settle here after herding cattle from Arizona through the Morongo Basin. He and his two sons dug the first well in Yucca Valley, building a windmill to pump the water and a reservoir of rock and cement. They added a bunkhouse, barn and corral, which became the first settlement established in Yucca Valley. To visit this historic landmark, go east on Crestview Dr. off of SR247 until the road dead ends.

Pioneertown

Looking for a bit of a wild excursion? Take Pioneertown Road 4 miles north of Yucca Valley through breathtaking canyons. You will find yourself traveling back to the old time western flavor of Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Hopalong Cassidy.  Pioneertown was originally built to film cowboy movies and TV shows. In more recent times, film crews have returned to make commercials against the rugged natural beauty and rustic backgrounds that still define Pioneertown. It is currently a popular music venue and draws crowds from all over southern California and visitors from as far away as New York. An evening at Pappy and Harriet’s restaurant promises to be entertaining any night of the week.  Don’t be surprised if a gunfight breaks out.  It’s all part of the wild, wild west.
